Zone has acquired the award-winning digital consultancy Head.
The deal, which will see Head move into Zone’s King’s Cross headquarters, consolidates Zone’s position as the UK’s leading independent digital specialist. Founded in 2000, Head is a 40-strong digital innovation, UX and technology agency, with clients including Electrolux, Bayer, NHS, Coca-Cola European Partners, Pearson Education and Tesco.
The transaction bolsters Zone’s existing strategy, UX and technology capabilities, and takes the agency’s team of digital experts to more than 250, working from offices in London, Bristol and Cologne. The agency provides mission critical digital services to blue-chip clients including Aviva, Barratt Homes, BT, Lloyds Banking Group, Maersk, RSPCA, Stagecoach and Unilever. Zone was named BIMA’s Agency of the Year in 2016.
The acquisition is the sixth in Zone’s 17-year history. In January 2016, Zone bought conceptbakery, a leading digital content specialist based in Cologne, Germany, further enhancing the agency’s ability to service clients across Europe.
Head managing director Rebecca Simmonds, who will join the Zone senior management team, said: “In Zone, we have found an ideal partner. We share similar cultures and ambitions and together we will be an industry force to be reckoned with. These are very exciting times for businesses who like us, are looking to scale and access resource and expertise to benefit both our people and our clients.”
James Freedman, founder and executive chairman of Zone, said: “The acquisition of Head comes after a great 12 months, which saw us winning new clients, delivering outstanding work and being named Agency of the Year by BIMA. Head’s outstanding capabilities around innovation and emerging technologies, coupled with our shared values, means that we’re really excited about what 2017 has in store.”
